The haters of the Occupy Wall Street protests do have two valid points. As the weeks and months progress, our microwave news culture will soon forget about the movement altogether. This coupled with those who are going out of their way to sabotage the protests, will eventually turn a sympathetic and supportive general public against them.
I think I have a solution...
As I outlined in last Friday's show, I think the movement would be better served by organizing specific protests, at various locations, on a twice a week basis. I think such a move will have a much stronger impact in the long run, without the pitfalls of trying to maintain a "tent city" throughout the harsh winter months.
Don't get me wrong. I admire what the Occupy movement has done to this point. God knows I, or most everyone else, couldn't hold out this long. I'm just afraid that eventually the message is going to get lost, especially with all the arrests, and over zealous police response.
Having said all of this, this will be the last of my coverage the Occupy movement. It has become apparent that the movement is not interested in support from anyone who may have suggestions on how to strengthen the message. I wish you well, my friends.
